The tour only takes you through a quarter (?) of the house, but it's easy to see how you can get screwed up and lost. So if you see random windows, they'll be because they originally faced the outside, then got assimilated into the house. Tragedy befell Sarah her infant daughter died of a childhood. They're recurring motifs throughout the house (patterns of 13 things or the number thirteen, spiders or spiderwebs worked into designs, etc.), and a lot of the walls were meant to be exterior walls, then got swallowed up by the ongoing construction. Windows to nowhere, half-floors that permit visibility above and below, sealed doors, switch-back stair cases, etc. Not quite as crazy as you see on the TV, but strange all the same. Having been on a tour of the Winchester House, it is an interesting experience. The Guided Mansion Tour features the larger rooms in the mansion and guests will be able to experience the house like never before. I just checked my copy of The Westchester House from Cthulhu Classics (Winchester with the serial numbers filed off) but sadly they only map out a tiny portion of the house.
